The City of Pleasantville is a growing city with a clear vision for economic growth. Great strides have been made over the past decade to stabilize the city and improve the quality of life for its residents. The city has long recognized the importance of creating safe and pedestrian friendly streets. This has led to many initiatives including the Pleasantville to Somers Point Bike Path, the adoption of a Complete Streets policy in 2011 and the adoption of a Pedestrian and Bicycle Safety Plan in 2012. Creating a safe and inviting pedestrian environment along the Main Street Central Business District is key to the long term economic and environmental sustainability of the city.

With previous studies and initiatives as a foundation, the city was awarded a $461,476 NJEDA Grant for much needed streetscape improvements along South Main Street. Arterial prepared a concept that reflected the culture of the neighborhood as well as providing for various pedestrian related elements that enhanced the unique identity of the area. Some of the key features include bump outs, pedestrian scale lighting, street trees, a gateway entry wall, street furniture and potted planters.
