The Monroe Street neighborhood in Hoboken, NJ is a burgeoning residential community. Located in the heart of this neighborhood is Monroe Center, an arts and culture incubator building. Home to a wide variety of businesses, the two buildings are connected by a glass atrium that overlooks a plaza space.
Arterial, LLC was sought to complement the contemporary renovation of these two buildings with a plaza that would serve this incubator building and match the vocabulary of the adjacent proposed public park. Anchoring the plaza is a prominent water feature that includes naturalized plantings, fountain and wooden boardwalks that traverse one side to the other. Key features of the design include rain gardens, catenary lighting, elevated wood deck seating area, concrete seat walls and tables and chairs.
