Montclair State University is currently completing the construction of a new cogeneration system throughout the entire campus. As a result, much of the campus’s landscape and circulation paths have been significantly impacted. The University would also like to enhance the connection between this historic portion of campus to the main pedestrian spine connecting students to the northern end of campus.
Arterial was contracted to develop a sustainable design solution along with strengthening the visual connection to University Promenade. Working alongside the campus director of planning, the concept centers on a linear bioswale that spans the length of the Promenade, capturing water along the way and terminating in a butterfly rain garden. This visual connection is bolstered by the removal and addition of walkways that align with more current pedestrian circulation routes.
