Liberty Harbor is a 50-acre redevelopment site that is transforming the face of Jersey City. The site has been planned using New Urbanist principles, offering a walkable, pedestrian-friendly development with ample and varied public space and amenities. The first phase, Liberty Harbor North, is well underway and several mixed-use buildings have already been constructed.

Arterial was commissioned to design the public space that will become the center of activity for this first phase. Positioned between the Jersey City Light Rail Station, a new restaurant and pub and two new residential towers, this streetscape promenade and public park will be a flexible and programmable space to accommodate a variety of users. A new pedestrian promenade with public cafe & sculptural seating will create a vibrant atmosphere for residents and commuters. A highly visible mid-block crossing connects the commuter station with the pedestrian promenade and commercial space. The plaza will offer residents a passive space for rest and relaxation. Some of the amenities include a large open lawn, movable cafe seating and a small breakfast/lunch kiosk. For weekly or monthly events, a large programmable plaza has been designed along the eastern edge of the site that can accommodate small markets, food trucks or community events, such as movies in the park.
