Montclair, New Jersey

Located in downtown Montclair, the Wellmont Theatre will become the heart of the town’s new Arts District. This redevelopment will include preservation of the historic 2000-seat Wellmont Theatre,  a new mixed-use building housing 220 residential units, 50K square feet of retail, and 20K square feet of art space, and a new parking structure topped with 20,000 square feet of office space. The public street at the center of this redevelopment will be closed to cars and transformed into a new 15,000 SF Arts Plaza.

Arterial has been commissioned to design this new Arts Plaza. The plaza will be a flexible art space accommodating a variety of programmable uses, shopping and outdoor dining. Public Art has been woven throughout the plaza and will tell the story of Montclair’s rich musical and art history and culture.
