Church Square Park, located in the heart of Hoboken, NJ, has served as a cornerstone of the community since 1875. Over its 150-year history, the park has evolved into a lively civic destination, balancing serene green spaces with active recreation. In response to the City of Hoboken’s vision to guide the park into its next century, a comprehensive, community-driven Vision Plan was created to restore its historic character while meeting the modern needs of thousands of daily visitors.
Arterial led this effort from visioning through implementation. The team began with a comprehensive site analysis addressing circulation, tree health, accessibility, noise, and historical context, which informed the development of a cohesive concept design for the entire park. Building on this foundation, Arterial advanced the Phase 1 improvements through full design and engineering, culminating in their completion in Fall 2025. This phase included a universally accessible playground, ADA-compliant restrooms, restoration of the central oval’s passive spaces, and new native planting beds. Arterial’s leadership, technical expertise, and collaborative approach ensured that Church Square Park’s redesign honors its historic legacy while creating an inclusive and enduring public space for the Hoboken community.
