AWARDS
The Township of Montclair in embarking on an effort to encourage walking and bicycling to school. This program is known nationally as “Safe Routes to Schools” (SRTS). The goal of this program is to reduce the number of cars on the road, increase student activity levels and improve the overall well-being of the Montclair community. Montclair’s ten elementary and middle schools each have unique conditions and goals that need to be addressed. Led by The RBA Group, the SRTS team performed inventories, hosted stakeholder workshops and in-class activities and is in the process of developing solutions for each of the ten schools.
To successfully execute this program requires efficient and thorough data collection and analysis. Arterial utilized Crosswalk – our cloud-based mapping and decision-making tool to perform all data collection. This included field documentation using mobile devices as well as interactive “community mapping” exercises during workshops. During stakeholder workshops, members of the community identified issues and solutions that were uploaded to Crosswalk in real-time. The result is a data rich but easy to use interactive web-based map that can be utilized to prioritize improvements and identify solutions as the project moves forward.
