The Northern Liberties development is located just south of the ‘Fishtown’ neighborhood in Philadelphia, PA. The development includes two buildings, 488 residential units, 42,000 sf of ground floor retail and several amenity terraces. The heart of the development is a cobble pedestrian street that will be lined by retail and include street trees, string lighting, performance spaces and more.
Arterial was responsible for the design of the pedestrian street, perimeter streetscape and plazas and the amenity terraces. Inspired by the historic cobble streets of Philadelphia, the pedestrian street is paved with cobblestone style decorative pavers. Designed to be flexible, the pedestrian street offers a range of seating options and planters that are easily movable to allow for a variety of events and programming. A gateway archway and overhead catenary lights frame the space. A feature bench was designed at the terminus of the street to address the topography and screen adjacent properties. The three rooftop amenity decks provide a variety of experiences for residents and include outdoor kitchen spaces, gaming areas, meditative gardens, outdoor co-working, a pool and more.
